From the moment we’re born, we begin to face the impacts of poor posture and spinal challenges. Whether it’s from the laborious birthing process, childhood playground accidents, hunching over tablets, or wearing heavy backpacks, any seemingly small injury can lead to a spinal and/or upper neck issue. This accumulation of small spinal traumas could lead to a host of worsening physical stresses as the child grows and develops.

Children, especially very young ones, have an extremely limited ability to accurately describe their pain or discomfort. Because of this, some of the issues that adults experience may be the result of an event that took place when they were an infant or child.

Spinal check-ups can help facilitate healthy growth in children

Infants and kids can benefit immensely from regular spinal checkups to ensure a balanced head and neck.

Children can injure their spine just like any adult can, however, their bones have not yet fully developed so the impact of trauma can be much greater. A spinal problem that is found and corrected early-on avoids developing into a serious problem as the child ages.

Spinal check-ups can identify any potential spinal dysfunction to ensure that children’s bones, muscles, joints, and nerves are working optimally.

The NUCCA advantage

Misalignments of the upper neck can be especially devastating. When the upper neck is injured or sprained significantly, an imbalance may be created that can influence the spinal cord and brainstem. This dysfunction may disrupt communication from the brain and potentially throw off the function of the entire body.

At the Vital Posture™ Clinic, we focus specifically on upper cervical spine corrections using the NUCCA procedures. Our doctors work to realign the head and neck which helps reduce stress in the nervous system. Proper alignment can improve communication between the body and the brain and restore proper posture and joint function—this is just as important for children as it is for adults.

Is NUCCA chiropractic safe for kids?

Yes! Upper cervical adjustments done by a NUCCA chiropractor will feel like nothing more than a slight pressure behind the ear, comparable to having your pulse taken. It is non-invasive and has been demonstrated to be safe.

With infants, the check-up consists of specialized pediatric tests that guide care and evolve based on the age and developmental stage of the child.

NUCCA for Kids: How often should I get my child checked?

In the absence of any apparent health concerns, it is recommended that kids get checked proactively when they start to support their own head—typically around 3 months of age. Our NUCCA chiropractors also like to check kids after any developmental milestones such as crawling and walking, or after any big bumps, falls, or accidents.

Intervening in the younger years is much quicker and simpler than dealing with a more significant chronic issue in the future.

“It’s always better to grow healthy kids than to repair damaged adults”

Give your child the advantage of growing optimally.

A visit to one of our chiropractors can identify potential spinal dysfunction stemming from the upper neck and ensure that your child is growing into a balanced frame; this helps ensure muscles, joints, and nerves are working together properly.

At the Vital Posture™ Clinic, we aim for each and every child and infant to grow and age in the healthiest manner possible.
