Even if you’re not entering a beauty pageant or marrying into the Royal Family, proper posture is critical. Without it, you’ll look and feel older than you need to. We all have various roles as adults: employee, boss, parent, caregiver... the list goes on! The importance of keeping yourself healthy and active is not only for you but also for the people who depend on you. Are you caring for children or an ageing parent? Do you have the energy to meet deadlines at work?
It’s a fact: when we stand balanced on two feet, we feel better, look better, and live better! We have more energy, take less sick time, and generally enjoy life more.
Through adolescence and into adulthood, our bodies go through a tremendous amount of stress. Think of all the falls, sports injuries, concussions, vehicle collisions, and pregnancies your body has been through. All this stress on the system can create wear and tear on your tissues and joints and negatively impact your posture and health. If you have a sore neck or back, suffer from migraines, or even have sore feet, chances are it’s related to your posture.
The most vulnerable area of your neck is referred to as the craniocervical junction (CCJ) and is made of up the bottom of your skull and the top of your neck; this region has an intimate relationship with your postural control system. Accidents and injuries to the neck can leave behind an inherent weakness which can show up visually as a tilted head, a low shoulder or hip, a longer leg, or twisting in your body’s framework.
Poor posture leads to a host of health problems. It can mean an unbalanced body, and we all know how important balance is in all aspects of our lives. Health, family time, friends, work – it’s all connected. A balanced body with proper neck and spine alignment is critical to your well-being and your ability to enjoy life!
